Whether you have started your business just a few minutes ago or 10 years ago being a team of one is part of the process. Rare are the people who join and have one person or more that joins the business venture at the same time.
It is less rare to see people remaining a team of 1 for sometime, or for a long time in some cases. If this is you, then just know that most people are in the same situation. I have been too.
In this Episode 13 I will share with you what is it that you might want to focus on until you attract your tribe. These activities will insure that you are ready to lead a team when it comes to you and that you already have a system in place.

Isn’t that funny that some people get into this industry then quit after talking to just a few friends, colleagues and family members? Like anything, building a network marketing business takes time and effort. In fact the business includes the word “Network..” which means we need to talk to people.
I don’t mean to be patronising but it is true that a lot of people get discouraged very quickly.
Finding places to network regularly to make contacts who can even refer you to their circle is great. But even network with you larger team or other teams within your company. You might think “well, how am I going to grow my team if I hang out with other representatives?”? The main point is to be surrounded of likeminded people and you never know where these connections will get you to.
Online is another avenue that you can explore to find people to talk to and build rapport with. If you do it right then it can do wonders in your business. Especially if you tend to be an introvert like me then internet might a great place to build your confidence.
Network Marketing Tips – Train Yourself
Training will be a forever task that you will have to implement in your lifestyle. Especially when you first start, there is so much to learn. I was even surprise how much I was, and still am, learning about myself.
I would not suggest to learn all the ingredients of your product if you sell a product but, know your product as well as your opportunity so you can talk with conviction and excitement to people. In regards to ingredients you can always refer people to official information video or PDF.
“USE THE TOOL DON’T BE A FOOL”
Obviously there is a lot to learn about the industry but don’t make it scare you as it is something that you do at your own pace. The other couple important elements to learn are communication and marketing. If only I would’ve been told, at the start of my journey (in fact, back at school!), to know how to market myself, it would’ve saved so much time!! So really don’t take this part lightly and get your gear at the highest speed to learn how to market yourself. Luckily you are in the right place since I am sharing tips weekly on this topic.
In regards to communication, it will be useful for your own sake to know how to talk in a way that attracts people’s interest to you. A great book you could put your hands on is “How To Win Friends And Influence People“, which contrary to what the title might put across, is about communication rather than manipulation.
Personal development is what will make you grow in anything you do. I consciously got involved in personal development in 2012 and what’s amazing about it is that it impacted my personal as well as professional life forever and in a great brilliant way.
The plus side is that when you will have a teammate or client starting in your program you will know what to recommend them to support them on their journey. Which they will be forever grateful for like I am to my friend who gifted me my first two personal development books.
Network Marketing Tips – Build The Foundation
Please try not to be stuck in a perfectionism mindset like I was because it will just slow you down in your mission.
However, create a system that makes your life easier when needing to plug people into it when they are interested. Make sure that you can track the people you are talking to and at what stage they are in the process of becoming a client or teammate of your’s.
Personally I use an Excel sheet, FB groups and Email list but you do not need to go fancy at first. Just make sure to have a duplicable system that makes your future team think that it is super easy to plug into.
Of course, if you have a leader that already has a great system in place that you and your future team can plug into, then by all means use this, leverage it and when the time is right create your own system should you want to. Bottom line is to make it easy breezy on you and your people.
Network Marketing Tips – Conclusion
Being a team of one can be disarming at times, especially if it’s the case for a while, but it can be turned into a positive outcome:
- Networking: Obviously something that will have to be done forever, whether online or offline it will have to be an ongoing activity of your’s. Meanwhile having a team of your’s, it is an extra time for you to also connect with your wider team (sponsor and other associates) to create a bond and connections.
- Training: The more you train yourself the better as you will be able to pass that onto your future team. Equally, do not close yourself into a learning mode only and making it your excuse for not finding people to talk to. Remember to use tools as much as possible so your people don’t think that they have to know it all to build a business alongside you.
- Build A Foundation: Use the time of being a team of one to create a system that will make your business duplication very easy for your team and your leverage much higher.
