What if focusing on one ideal type of customer only would bring more interest, and more cash in your business?

I was once told to approach my friends, my family, and everyone that I would encounter with my business, and products.
As much as everyone can be a potential, not everybody is an actual match for you, neither are you necessary the perfect match for them!

In this Episode 40 I am sharing with you 3 essential questions to ask yourself, and which will make you create the perfect ideal customer avatar, who wants what you have, and is really excited to buy from you.

Market Research – Misconception

Many people think that everyone can be their customer, and although it is correct to some extent, it is also far from the truth at the same time.

It’s kind of like saying, I am looking for the key I dropped in under the lamp’s light because this is the only place I can see.

Having use both strategies, looking for anyone among everyone, and targeting the exact type of person I am looking for, I can assure you that the latter requires less energy and creates much more focus, thus results and cash.

Market Research – Question #1

The most important aspect, before anything else, is actually to know who you are yourself. Usually we tend to attract the people who can relate to us, and it is also much easier to build rapport with them.

The first question to ask yourself is: Who am I?

  • What is your status (Parent, Single parent, Man, Woman, Trans…)?
  • What do you do for a living?
  • What do you like doing for leisure?
  • What is your favourite car?
  • Do you like sports? Which sports?
  • What do you read?
  • Where do you like traveling?
  • Where do you shop?

Once you have these info of self jotted down, you are already a little clearer on who you are looking for. Remember, people buy into people, especially people they can relate to.

Market Research – Question #2

After figuring out some of, or all, your attributes, your need to be clear on what you stand for. So ask yourself, and write down the following question: What do I stand for?

In other words, what do you want people to know for?
I’ll admit that this question might require you to sit down, and think quite a bit. However, do not torn yourself in the process, because it will evolve as you go along anyway.

If the question “what do I stand for?” is to vague for you, perhaps ask yourself whether you want to lead your business with the products, or the opportunity. I know it helped me a lot in my business at first.

When I started this process myself, it was a true headache to be honest but I went with the flow, and things became clearer and clearer. Essentially I figured that I am a makeup artist, a coach, and a network marketer, and love online marketing. Then I decided to label myself as an Online Marketing Coach, who helps Entrepreneurs, MUAs, and Network Marketers, create faster results online so they can enjoy doing more of what they love, with the people they love.

Market Research – Question #3

With the above two questions, it should, most likely give you an idea of your ideal customer already.

Yet, the third question is: Who do I serve?

By combining your own personal criteria, and what you want to be known for, you should know who you want to work with.
Are they:

  • Men/women
  • Of a certain age group
  • Working in a specific field
  • Parent/single parents
  • Freelancers/Employees
  • Liking similar activities as your’s

Again, do not get caught up into the little details, because everything will become clearer as you go along. So, maybe just start with one of the above category, and then refine later on.

Market Research – Conclusion

Looking for your next customers is already a process, so make it easier on you by having more focus.

Refine the exact type of ideal customer and/or teammate you’d like to attract in your business, and go find them wherever they are hanging out, as you will now know who, and where you can find them.

This, however, does not mean that you won’t attract, or accept any other people, it just means that your focus will be much sharper.
