Lead Generation – What is it?
This is the bread and butter of your business since it is the way that allows you to put yourself in front of people that are more likely to be interested in buying your product/service or take a look into your opportunity.
Yet, it is crucial to know what type of leads are the most qualified for you which I briefly talked about in my Personal Branding Training, that you can watch here. The next step is to know where to find your potential customers whether online or offline, which is exactly what I’ll share with you in this episode.
Lead Generation – Where Are They Offline
As said previously, I used to go out with a “Prospecting Radar” on my head Metaphorically – otherwise I would’ve looked somewhat weirder than I already am haha. Although this being a metaphor I can tell you that people feel when you are “prospecting” rather than wanting to connect, make friends and wanting to provide value.
Although “Offline” places are my 2nd choices these days I put it first as it is what people do the most in order to find customer and business partners still.
Once I figured out my ideal audience and got to know where they hangout, the stress, of wondering where to find interested potentials, lifted and the process of networking became much more fun and focused.
Here are my top 6 offline places to find new customers and/or teammates:
- MeetUp Groups: This is a free app that makes you able to find any type of social event you want to plug into. After you download it it, you can choose the location, your interests and start finding events wherever you are. Most of these events are free or costing a very low fee.
- Networking Communities: These are very popular nowadays and they also make sure that people who are within their community are likeminded and having common interests. You can find Breakfast networking, lunch/brunch networking… Some of the most populars for entrepreneurs are BNI (Business Network International) and 4Networking. If you have a very defined niche (ie: Stay At Home Mums) then you can search for a gathering group with this audience in your area.
- Exhibitions: When finding what exhibitions your audience is interested in then you can attend those you like too and build rapport with people on a very casual way. This is not necessarily the place where you pitch but can collect contact to follow up with later.
- Fairs: In my opinion Fairs are great to use without necessarily pay for a stand. You could look at exhibition going on in your city or wherever it suits you within the field that you pick and attend them (again lots of them are accessible for free or little cost) to connect with potential customers and or teammates. The difference with Exhibition is that Fairs usually have people running and showcasing their businesses. Hint: Customers are most of the time the one browsing and your potential teammates are the ones behind their stand.
- Gyms: Fun environment to create new relationship and get to know people, what they like and how they could fit for your product, service and/or opportunity. This is even more relevant if you are in the health & wellness industry as people are already oriented towards feeling and looking good.
- Events: Company events (if you have a job alongside your business), social events even friends event invitations are great to meet new people to talk to and connect with. In most big cities you can find free magazine sharing the monthly events happening around. One of them being very well known is “TimeOut”. Free and though jam packed with great tips on where to hangout.
Lead Generation – Where Are They Online
Now we are talking 21st century type of strategy. My FAV!!!
This is where it changes the entire dynamic of my business, stress level and overall view point on all the possibilities.
Personally, I firmly believe this is the best way to attract customers without exhausting thyself. In fact you can reach to the entire world which would technically and physically impossible by using the old school way only. Hallelujah to the 21st century… Wouldn’t you agree?
Let’s now dive into the my to 4 places where to find new leads without stress!
- Social Media: YES YES YES, it is obvious and easy. Well let’s add that it is “easy” only if done properly. What you can do is to join some FB groups and Like relevant Pages that your audience is interested in. The purpose of this is not to go pitch your offer(s) but instead build rapport and find out what value you can provide to your audience. If someone post asking tips on how to loose weight and that you have a solution, message that person privately and let her know by tagging her in the comment thread that you sent them a PM. From there ask further question showing your interest in them and do not pitch immediately. Each social media platform has their own algorithm so make sure you are in alignment with them but essentially search for people have a pb, build rapport privately and provide a solution.
- Forums: Very similarly, you can find a platform that you know your audience will be hanging out and start reading their pain, struggles, wants and desires. then you interact to start a relationship and take them into your process that you have in place to convert them from cold to warm to boiling HOT. Forums are great to see what type of questions are asked about particular topics and the answers that have been provided.
- Blogs: These platforms are great for a few things. A) you are connecting with people who interested in building a business in the niche you chosen. Great if you are looking for business partners or collaborations. B) You have access to their audience which could be the same that you are targeting and therefore valuable to connect with and get to know. C) The blogger’s articles can inspire (not copy and paste as this is not cool) you about what to talk about to your people should be creating content on social media or your own blog (which is highly recommended).
- Google: Of course our good old friend google is amazing to support your research for all the above and more. If you simply type in the search engine bar “where to find________(audience type) in______(City, Country…)?” then you will have a plethora of answers coming your way and you will be able feed yourself with unlimited possibilities. The same goes to find blogs and forums. Just Google “Forum/Blog about______ (audience or specialty) located in_______ (country, city…)”
Of course the above are just few suggestions but they are far from being limited. You can be as creative as you want but the main important point is that, in any case, you build rapport first and then start offering a solution rather than pitching from the get-go. NO-ONE likes to be sold!
