This is a feeling I have been through many times and, in all honesty, still go through sometimes. The one big difference between the past and now is that, I now know how to tackle it and reverse it to, better and, more pleasant feelings. It can take more or less time depending on how deep one let’s him/herself go. The major importance is to raise self-awareness and work on it daily.

In this Episode 25 I will share with you some of my top tips to improve your mood and bring back better feelings inside your mind, your body thus your business.

How To Improve Your Mood – #1 Step Out

It is very easy to remain indoor when working from home and isolate ourselves. When staying too long inside the house, stress, unclarity, foggy mind and dragging thought often start crippling on us.

If you still have a job alongside your business venture you might feel that going out of the house to go to the office is giving a nice fresh air and elevates the positive ideas. Hence why we tend to have more ideas for our business when at work, thanks to being detached from the creation process.

For these reasons I tend to work outside my home at least 3 days per week so it breaks the monotonous routine.
If you want to experience the difference, try and keep a journal of your feelings. Especially when not at your best and then act consciously and purposefully to get out and work from somewhere else.
In the case of you persisting in working from home, then make sure to take some break and go for a walk of 30 minute every 1 or 2 hours and let your thoughts wonder as they wish. This is a simple step on How to improve your mood yet greatly beneficial.

How To Improve Your Mood – #2 Home

Your home is your sanctuary and this should remain as such. Further more if you actually work from home.
In any case your home is where you have control over what is included inside it. When I understood this and also read about some article about Feng Shui then it became very important for me to create a supportive interior.

Here are some ideas on how to make your home your best supportive environment:

  • Hang positive framed quotes on the wall
  • Write your goals on post it and stick them where you are certain to see them most (Fridge, Bathroom mirror, Inside your cupboards…)
  • Cushions with positive words on it
  • Have green plants to bring more living life
  • Follow the Feng Shui method

The more you surround yourself of positivity, of your goals and vision the better you will feel and the more likely you will make them come true. Thus it is a double winning.

How To Improve Your Mood – #3 Reading, Watching & Listening

The more you fuel your mind with goodness the more reward you will get from it.
So paying attention to what you read and what you watch on TV, Youtube or else will play a big part on how you feel. Personally I tend to read a few pages of a good book before bed and listening to a motivational audio after my meditation time in the morning.

Have you ever watched a horror movie before sleeping or talk about a topic with someone in the last hour of going to bed and somehow you are having dreams about this similar topic?

This is because the brain assimilates what you fuel it with and then works with that information over night.

For that reason it is absolutely vital to check out what goes inside your mind.

How To Improve Your Mood – #4 Be Easy On yourself

A very common personality trait for entrepreneurs is that, we tend to be perfectionists thus procrastinating on some work because we don’t find the results are matching our expectation level.

This way of dealing with tasks, outcomes or else is also detrimental to our mental well-being. From the moment something is not done our way, on time and looking “the best”, we then start feeling the “Not Good Enough” emotion. Do you relate?

Whether you relate to the above or not, just remember to be easy on you. Though, don’t go the other extreme and start being laxest but, remember that the less unnecessary stress you put on your mind the more productive and happier you will be.

How To Improve Your Mood – #5 Celebrate

No matter how big or small your successes are such as having ticked off your entire to-do-list, going to bed early or having ranked to the top level of your company’s compensation plan, the celebration should be part of your journey.

Too often we, as human beings, tend to not acknowledge the little steps whereas the gratitude and celebration of these will encourage you to move forward.

Have you ever heard of the Pavlov Experiment?
It is a study that was made by a Russian scientist named Ivan Pavlov (Surprise Surprise for the name of the experiment!) in the late 90’s. That experiment was about making a dog eat their food only when the bell was sounded. After just a few times the dog was condition to only eat when Pavlov was sounding the bell.

Comes out that human being function pretty much the same way. Therefore, if you reward and celebrate yourself for all the successes (however big or small) you achieved then you are conditioning your mind to the feel-good of achieving things.
