Facebook marketing – How To Avoid The Common mistakes –
Do you ever feel like you are doing a lot on social media but your effort does not turn into positive results?
Have you ever wonder if people ever click on the link you are sharing on your profile?
For a very long time, I was doing what I was told to do such as posting my products and opportunity on social media. Unfortunately, I was getting very little to no results at all yet increasing the stress, disappointment and self-limiting belief levels.
After so many years, I found the way that works and which is used by most high income earners in the network marketing industry. I then decided to pay to learn and implement these techniques in my business which are now bringing the results I wanted for a long time.
So, in this episode, I’m gonna share with you the most common mistakes that people make when building an online business on Facebook. If you recognise yourself within this, don’t worry because you’ll be able to go ahead and make the necessary changes, to impact your business positively and create faster results. 😉

Facebook Marketing – What to do and Why
The way I see Facebook is like my brand banner and reality show. So, it is very important that it projects my personality, my message and that people I want to attract in my life and business relate to me.
If you think of huge brands such as Apple, Amazon or Starbucks, you can be 99% of the time certain to recognise their adverts miles away. This is because of the way they present and brand themselves. This process is exactly the same for any type of business. Whether you have a small, medium, large, home or traditional business your branding MUST represent YOU and make people recognise as well as relate to your message. If you want more info on Personal Branding I recommend you to go and watch my Episode on “How To Brand Yourself”
Let’s dive in and break the 5 Top common mistakes that people (And so did I!!) make on Facebook while building an online business. Get ready to take notes or even work on your profile as we go along together.
Facebook Marketing – Mistake #1: Profile Picture
Do you know anyone who has a profile picture that is not them or they are in a middle of a group of people, which if you didn’t know that person you would not be able to who is who?
Let me tell you that I put some profile pictures which were far from being me over the years such as: my hand, makeup face chart, shopping window, Lady Gaga (could’ve get lots of attention with that one haha), paint and even a Squirrel… So if you have been or are in that phase don’t worry, you are not alone 🙂
However, from a business point of you it is very important to be clear on the fact that your FACEbook profile should be YOUR FACE. Not someone else, not you and your husband together (especially if you have a name which could be both gender!), not your kids, not your pet, not a landscape… you get the geste.
Now you might think, but I love my kids, I love my pet, I love my husband, I love the photo of the last holiday landscape I took etc. That is great and we all do. Then my recommendation would be to create another profile and keep those photos for your posts but your PROFILE pic must be you. ONLY if you want to be taken seriously of course.
Make sure you look you and approachable but professional at the same time. Don’t have to wear any particular clothing such as a suit if it’s not your personality but make your photo clear, approachable, fresh, relevant to the time (not a photo from 20 years ago…)
Facebook Marketing – Mistake #2: Cover Photo
Very similar to your profile picture. You want to give a message through that photo. It needs to say something about you, your personality and who you want to be perceived as. Here are some examples of what could your cover photo be:
- Landscape of a holiday you’ve been to
- Your house
- You speaking on stage
- Quote
The cover photo does not have to include you in it although it always adds a little something. However it is crucial that it represent you, your branding and that it builds a story about you.
Facebook Marketing – Mistake #3: About
Again, a part which is overlooked is the information that are in the about section. When marketing yourself on Facebook and online overall, your about section is what serious people will most likely going to go and view. And surely you want those serious people to take you seriously, heh?
This is like a CV, it needs to be updated regularly or when needed. I had to go through mine and realised that there were things I didn’t want to be seen as because it does not reflects my present reality and the brand I am building. By checking it out you might be surprise of what’s there that needs to be erased.
Equally, make sure to fill this section if you have nothing in there.

Facebook Marketing – Mistake #4: Links
OMG!!! I never dare wondering how many potential connections I lost by doing this… who was possibly interested in my offers? who found bad publicity online about the stuff I was representing and, therefore never asked any question to find out more…???!
Most companies out there (specifically marketing companies) suggest to post their name, product photos, replicated website link of yours on your social media. I’ve been there, done that and didn’t work!!!
Just consider for a second… What would you most likely do if you see a product, website link or advert that someone post on their profile. The chances are you will go and do your own research, with the risk to find bad mouth on it which might not be true and not get back to the person’s profile. Right?
Well, this is what most people do which means that you have no control over who did or seen what. Even the Independent journal shared a study saying that 59% of links shared on social media are not clicked, see article here. Not saying that you don’t have to share links, I do, but there is a way to do it so you can track who is clicking etc.
Facebook Marketing – Mistake #5: Attitude/Image
When building a business it is highly recommended not to share political views, news, personal “dirty laundry” or complaining publicly.
Any sort of negative behaviour will be pushing your audience away from you and you might just attract more negative results in your business/life. We all have an opinion but your business and social media platforms are not the place where to express what might contradict with your audience, customers and potential teammates.
People will judge you on the basis of what you share and spread around. The more positivity and good feeling you share the more referral will be sent your way.
Facebook Marketing – Conclusion
If you are wanting to build an online business and use Facebook as a platform then your Facebook profile must reflect you, your business, your branding, your values and beliefs.
Therefore, the following must carefully be considered for your audience to take you seriously and relatable:
- Profile Picture: photo of you ONLY, smiling, approachable and looking somewhat professional
- Cover photo: representing a message you want your audience to relate to or be attracted to
- complete or clean your About section if needed
- Do NOT post links that do not make you able to track who click on them
- In no circumstances you should project negativity and complaints or post about politic nor news topics. This will be detrimental to your engagement with people
