Ok so let’s now get into the benefits of laughters that we can all enjoy.
Benefits Of Laughter #1 – May Reduce Blood Pressure
It is a very well known cliché that Laughter is the best medicine and that people feel much better and uplifted after a good laugh.
In fact, a research about “Laughter Yoga” was made by the Laughter Yoga University, based in India, and came up with scientific results showing the positive impact and the benefits of Laughter. These included 6% reduction of blood pressure in less than 20 days.
Benefits Of Laughter #2 – May Reduce Anxiety
The symptoms of anxiety can vary from one person to another but generally the symptoms can be psychological (having a sense of dread, difficulty concentrating, irritability…) and/or physiological (dizziness, dry mouth, trembling or shaking, insomnia…).
Luckily what makes you laugh makes you relax (unless if you are laughing nervously or ironically of course). The way laughters can make you relax is actually very simple that is thanks to the air we are breathing.
YOU MUST THINK “YOU ARE HAVING A LAUGH”… BUT NOPE!
It is a scientific fact that laughing increases our air intake which increases the oxygen in our bodies and that lead to muscle relaxation. Thanks to this rather simple process the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety may reduce dramatically and very quickly.
Benefits Of Laughter #3 – Calms Stress Hormones
It is proven that laughing can reduce the levels of the stress hormones known as Cortisol, Epinephrine or Adrenaline and Dopac.
A study done by the American Physiological Society and reported by the sciencedaily.com shows that even an ANTICIPATED laughter can be very beneficial to you.
Now you know that when you have a good fun time ahead scheduled then you will definitely be reducing the levels of stress inside your body. So make sure to plan those fun times as often as possible.
Benefits Of Laughter #4 – Immune Booster
To Laugh increases the production of T-cell which helps to support the immune system and thus reduce the physical effect of stress.
What having a strong immune system means is that it protects you and your body against bacteria, viruses, cold and flu. With that said you know what you will have to do over the winter time – LAUGH LAUGH LAUGH…
DID I SAY LAUUUUUUUUGH…. 🙂
Benefits Of Laughter #5 – May Burn Calories
I can hear you there thinking “I now have the secret to eating whatever and how often I want”. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but laughing won’t be a substitute for healthy food and daily exercise. Sorry and hopefully we are still friends…
However it is apparently a good way to eliminate about 40 calories daily if having a good 10 – 15 minutes laughter everyday. This could potentially lead to 14 600 calories burnt per year.
So if you are on a weight loss journey remember to add “Have A Laugh” to your to-do-list.
NOW: let’s now see some tips on how to add more laughter in your life
Tips On How To Laugh More
How To Laugh More Tip #1 – Watch A Funny Movie
This is particularly good if you don’t feel like going out and want to isolate yourself but realise that you have to do something about your stress level.
In the past it happened to me that I didn’t feel like seeing anybody and wanted to watch a movie. Yet the first idea that would come to mind – because of the current state at that point – was “let’s watch a dramatic movie” for example Titanic. Not a good idea when not 100%…
Having some awareness and remembering that it is ok to have some down moment is important but try and encourage yourself by making sure not to succumb to it. For this reason, if it ever happen that you want to watch a movie in “these” times then a comedy or funny movie like The Mask with Jim Carrey would be best.
How To Laugh More Tip #2 – Watching Funny Youtube Videos
You must think it is the same as the above but actually…
Lately this one is on the top of my list and is my favourite because of its instant effect as it is short and to the point.
Since it is important for our Mind And Body Nourishment to Laugh then trust me funny youtube videos will give you that little extra.
What sort of funny videos you are asking?
- Cats Laughing Video
- Contagious Laughing Video (My Belly hurt and My Eyes Cried)
- Parrots Laughing Video
Of course don’t limit yourself to those.
Some videos are sometimes even funnier when watched more than once. Beside I always watch them more than one time or watch more than one video for better results.
How To Laugh More Tip #3 – Go To A “Laughter Yoga” Class
As mentioned in the Benefits Of Laughter #1 Laughter Yoga is a practice that shows scientifically proven positive results on our health so it for sure is something that would be worth the try. Don’t you think?
The additional bonus to going to a class is that you are certain to meet people that are looking for the same thing as you. LAUGHTER, HAPPINESS and WELLBEING.
So why not giving a try and make some friends along the way 🙂
How To Laugh More Tip #4 – Call A Friend
Of course one of the immediate resource and help you can use is calling a friend.
In today’s society people tend to stay with themselves, behind their screen and avoid human interaction. So rather than being isolated or just send a text, which can be interpreted in different ways, perhaps having a phone call to hear someone’s voice and express yours might be a better way.
Friends are good to listen and remind us of fun and funny moments you spent together.
Benefits Of Laughing – In Conclusion
- Laughing is very healthy and it is recommended to have, at least, 10 to 15 minutes dose of laughter daily
- You can easily make yourself laugh even if you “don’t feel like it” but want to reverse your state of mind
- Some tips that can help you engage in laughters are: watching a funny movie, funny Youtube videos, attend a “Laughter Yoga” Class or simply call a friend. Of course these are not limited and you have plenty of other options to choose from
